Machinable Fixture Walls for DualFlex Clamp Workholding
The Firmworx FirmWall is a machinable fixture component designed to be used with Firmworx M6 DualFlex Clamps to hold components securely, firmly, and repeatably.
Machined in-house by Firmworx in England, the FirmWall is manufactured from high carbon steel, giving users a durable but machinable fixture rail that can be mounted directly into custom fixtures, pallets, tombstones, and production workholding plates.
FirmWalls are designed to work alongside M6 DualFlex Clamps, creating a compact and flexible workholding system for holding multiple components with minimal hardware.
Designed for High-Density Workholding
FirmWall fixture rails allow you to build compact multi-part workholding setups without needing large vices, strap clamps, or bulky fixtures.
For smooth OP2 work, the FirmWall and DualFlex Clamps can be machined with matching contours to suit your components. This allows the user to create dedicated contact faces, profiles, steps, pockets, or location features directly into the workholding.
This makes FirmWalls ideal for:
- OP2 machining
- Profiled component location
- High-density fixture plates
- Palletised machining
- Tombstone setups
- Repeat production work
- Soft-jaw style workholding
- Small and medium component fixtures
Machinable Contact Face
The FirmWall is designed to be machined by the user to suit the part being held.
For repeat production, this allows the fixture wall to be profiled to match the component shape, improving support, repeatability, and clamping security.
When used with DualFlex Soft Jaw Clamps, the FirmWall can become part of a fully customised OP2 workholding system where both the fixed side and clamping side are machined to suit the component.
This gives excellent flexibility for low-cost, high-density workholding.
Compact Dimensions
Each FirmWall is:
| Feature | Specification |
|---|---|
| Width | 16mm |
| Length | 110mm |
| Clamping height | 6mm |
| Mounting hardware | Standard M6 x 20mm cap head bolts |
| Location feature | 12mm H7 mounting strip |
| Material | High carbon steel |
| Manufacture | Machined in-house by Firmworx in England |
The clamping height is 6mm, and the user can machine the mounting pocket depth to control the effective clamping depth down to 1mm.
This gives flexibility when holding thinner parts or when the workholding needs to sit lower in the fixture.
Located with a 12mm H7 Mounting Strip
The FirmWall includes a 12mm H7 toleranced mounting strip machined into the bottom face.
This allows the FirmWall to be accurately located into a matching pocket or slot in the fixture plate, helping with repeatable positioning and alignment.
The FirmWall is then secured using standard M6 x 20mm cap head bolts, keeping the system simple, robust, and easy to maintain.
Use with M6 DualFlex Clamps
FirmWall has been designed to work directly with M6 DualFlex Clamps.
For smaller components, one FirmWall can support multiple clamping positions along its length.
A single 110mm FirmWall can be used with up to 5 M6 DualFlex Clamps per side, giving up to 10 clamping positions from one FirmWall setup.
This allows users to build compact, high-density fixtures while keeping hardware costs low.
Lower Cost Fixture Building
FirmWall is designed to reduce the cost and complexity of building custom workholding.
Instead of machining a complete custom fixture block for every job, users can mount FirmWalls into a fixture plate and combine them with DualFlex Clamps to create repeatable, modular workholding layouts.
This helps reduce the barrier to entry for proper fixture building, making it easier to create efficient production setups without excessive material cost, machining time, or hardware.
